Audtion decisions

As a group we collectively decided to choose Hannah, we still haven't chosen the male character because Cameron wasn't able to participate. We are considering using her boyfriend D'angelo. We suggested this as we thought she would be more comfortable for the one scene where she appears topless.

Further ideas

As a group we discussed further ideas towards our music video. We was able to come up with the idea that in the music was was going to do the scenes in the studio in black and white and the rest of video to be in colour this is to emphasise vunrability and loneliness .

Auditions

Today we held auditions for our music video. We was able to find 2 girls who we are thinking that can be considered for the role of Rihanna. We have found a Boy who is suitable for the role of Future. We are thinking of doing a call back to possibly decide which of the 2 girls we want for the role of Rihanna.

Treatment Paragraph

We are planning to do a performance based piece to “Rihanna ft. Future – Loveeee song “. We have thought of several of ideas and have come to a conclusion that we would base the music video around two characters one female and one male. It would be shot in 3 different locations which would be the studio, a rooftop and a field. We plan to incorporate different camera techniques such as mid close ups , wide shots and extreme close ups.

case study 3

Daley - Broken
Published on Aug 26, 2013
The video is based in a field with clips of Daley being in a warehouse , it briefly shows a girl in the field just walking.
I think that this video is purely performance based due to it having no narrative .
The themes that have come up is vunrability as it's based of lot of the characters alone and walking away from the camera
It represents the artist to be lost and alone this is shown by the camera angles , such as the camera at a high angle showing that he's all alone
I loved the close ups of the female character running away which was shot at a low angle
I liked the fact it was shot with the sunset behind the characters
I will incorporate the low angle that was used to shows the girls walking away.

Case Study 2

The Weeknd ft. Drake
Length 3:45
Published : Sep 11, 2013

The video is The weeknd in a room a warehouse singing to the camera it then cuts to Drake in a lift rapping and then walking out continuing to rap. It then continues with the weeknd singing in the warehouse and then fades out.
Themes -
This video is purely performanced based and conceptual as well. Its a lot of just the artists singing/ rapping at the camera but the lighting could represent that life is a lot of dark days but always has its burst of happiness
The representation of the weeknd is that he feels that life is hard especially with the lyrics that are being said , it also shows that he values life and those that are around him.
I loved the camera angles especially the ones that were shot at low levels as it gave an exciting feel to it. I liked the when the panned out then panned in I though that was very thought out . I also noticed that the camera was on a slant and could connote that his thoughts are always one sided.
I liked the editing of the slow motion and the way it cut from the two artists.
I think the audience is targeted at young adults 17-22 years old
I would consider using the angles in this music video as it was well thought out and it can represent a lot of different concepts and I think it will go well with the song im doing.

CASE STUDY 1

Chris Brown – Love More ft. Nicki Minaj
Length 3:09
Released: July 16 2013
Produced by: FRESHM3N III
It features Brown taking some of his friends to a night club in his car, when he turns on the radio and the song starts. The music video features a cameo by Nick Swardson as they drive shotgun. At the club, Brown is seen flirting, singing and performing synchronized dance moves with his backup dancers, while multiple shots of Nicki Minaj are shown.
Themes – The main theme is clubbing as there is a lot of dancing and lots of people having fun.
The video is performanced based due to the fact that there is a lot of choreography involved, there is a bit of narrative to it in the beginning but I think he chose a performance based video just to show that he is having fun.
The representation of chris shows him to be very popular with girls and shows him to be a great dancer throughout the video. he sells himself by the way he dances and makes you wonder what he is going to do next.
The use of strobe lights in the beginning create the allusion of a club feel and also connotes dancing and happiness
I liked the mid close up of chris when he lip synching and the camera captures his profile , I thought it was very effective and you were able to clearly see the words he was lip synching.
There was a lot of cuts which went great with the beat of the song and made the music video flow.
I liked the slow motion effect that was used when the camera panned out to a full body shot of chris in the middle surrounded by girls.
I think the target audience was for young people aged around 15-25 years old
I really liked the slow motion and might consider using it in my music video as it just emphasizes the main artist and also it made you focus on the lyrics. I would be considering using that editing technique.

Using The DSLR'S for the first time

Today we were shown how to set up a DSLR and once we did we was put into groups and were told to film a video about ' A secret '. Our group done a secret on a girl who just found out she was pregnant and now the whole school has found out. Throughout the making of the film we had to include an over the shoulder shot and also a wide shot. It made me realise how heavy the camera was but also the quality of the camera made the film seem more professional and that's how I would want my music video to look like. At the end we showed our final unedited to the rest of the class. Personally it was a good experience as we are planning to use the DSLR'S

Research & Planning

Today we looked at a few possible suggestions of artist we might do. We thought of Justin Beiber - nothing like us , Amplify Dot - Three little pigs  and BeyoncĂ© - grown woman. We then narrowed it down to BeyoncĂ© - grown woman and thought of doing a performance based piece but Vanessa informed us that our concept may not work so we are still looking for possible songs.
